Sensorial

The young child is an ‘explorer’, investigating every detail of his surrounding and learning through physical experiences. The Montessori Sensorial materials offer the possibility of improving the quality of perception during this especially receptive period of a child’s life.

Each piece is designed to highlight one quality. The child is shown how to use it so that his own exploration of it will lead to a clearer understanding of intangible qualities. Children build cognitive skills, and learn to order and classify impressions by using their five senses and the physical properties of their environment. The child’s fascination with the Sensorial Materials can extend for several years and lead to a life-long appreciation of the most subtle aspects of the environment.
